Fauci Not A Fan of Florida’s Plan to Potentially Reopen Schools
There’s been a significant gulf in the way that different states have reacted to the COVID-19 crisis. Florida, led by Governor Ron DeSantis, has been criticized for it’s lax efforts to protect it’s citizens.
DeSantis decided not to close the beaches during spring break and waited until to impose a shelter in place order. On Friday, the Florida governor said he could soon move to reopen the state’s schools. When asked about this possibility, Dr. Anthony Fauci responded that it could endanger the students.
The Florida leader said on Friday, “We’re going to look at the evidence and make a decision. This particular pandemic is one where, I don’t think nationwide there’s been a single fatality under 25. For whatever reason it just doesn’t seem to threaten, you know, kids.”
When asked about these words on Friday, Dr. Fauci displayed clear concern. “If you have a situation where you don’t have a real good control over an outbreak and you allow children together, they will likely get infected,” he told reporters.
