Fake News? Oblivious Trump Tweets Out an Article From a Satirical Site

The Onion has been skewering American culture since 1996. And with the success of the website, there are sure to be imitators and competitors. One of these “fake news” competitors is a website and Twitter account called the Babylon Bee.

Last night, the Bee commented on the short afternoon Twitter outage by claiming that it was done to help Joe Biden. The obvious satire, however, flew right over Donald Trump’s head. This morning, the president retweeted the article and commented on how unfair tech companies were to him.

The article was titled, Twitter Shuts Down Entire Network To Slow Spread Of Negative Biden News. Trump definitely failed to read the article, which featured lines like, “[Twitter CEO] Dorsey ran downstairs and started smashing as many computers as he could, but he did need to ask for some help, as the hammer was pretty heavy.”

Trump commented on the article, “Wow, this has never been done in history. This includes his really bad interview last night. Why is Twitter doing this. Bringing more attention to Sleepy Joe & Big T.”

The president was savagely mocked on Twitter for the miscue. The Daily Beast’s Sam Stein wrote, “Oh god. Our president is up at 6am tweeting satire pieces without realizing its satire.”

As of 7:30 EST, Trump has yet to take the embarrassing post down.
