The notoriety of congressman Devin Nunes rose exponentially since Donald Trump took office. He has been a noted pit bull for the president and has also been accused of leaking confidential information to Trump. He was cleared of those allegations by a Republican led house in December of 2017.
The California lawmaker has now found himself wrapped up in controversy again. Recently arrested Ukrainian Lev Parnas has said that he’s willing to testify that Nunes sought to seek damaging information about Joe Biden. According to former FBI agent Frank Figliuzzi, Nunes may already be under federal investigation.
This time around, Republicans are not in control of the house. And Democratic Rep. Adam Smith, who is the Chair of the House Armed Services Committee already said that an ethics investigation into Nunes is likely.
Figliuzzi, who was formerly the FBI Assistant Director for Counterintelligence, said that an FBI investigation may have started as well.
He was asked by MSNBC’s Joy Reid what he thinks about Nunes general behavior and his involvement with major players in the case.
The former FBI official answered:
“I have no particular knowledge on this. I want to be sure to say that. But when you look at this new evidence revolving around phone calls, then you look at Devin Nunes’ travels and who he’s associating with, and the fact that he’s kind of backchannel, backdoor information to the White House that he’s gleaning from committees in the past, I wouldn’t be surprised if there already isn’t some inquiry into his activities related to foreign contacts. And I think this is only going to continue to grow.”
