Eric Trump Blows an Anti-Semitic Dog Whistle on Fox News
It was just two weeks ago that Florida Republican Gubernatorial candidate Ron DeSantis was criticized for using an anti-African American dog whistle to attack his Democratic opponent Andrew Gillum.
Today, President Trump’s own son, Eric Trump, appeared on Fox & Friends and used a dog whistle of his own — this time one that seemingly attacked Jewish people. The interview, which can be seen below, has caught many Republicans and Democrats off-guard.
Eric Trump was speaking about Bob Woodward’s new book, “Fear: Trump in the White House”, when he threw in an apparent anti-semitic comment.
“You can write a sensational nonsense book, CNN will definitely have you on there because they love to trash the president,” Eric Trump said. “It’ll mean you sell three extra books, you make three extra shekels — I mean, at the behest [sic] of the American people, at the behest of our country and a president that’s doing a phenomenal job by every quantifiable metric.”
For those of you unaware, a ‘shekel’ is the monetary currency in Israel and it’s also used by right-wing anti-semites and white supremacists, especially online, as a sarcastic and derogatory term for money, with a negative connotation that Jewish people are greedy and control the market.
Surely Eric Trump will deny that he had any ill-intentions in doing so, but then again, that’s exactly the point of a dog whistle.
