Employees Discuss Their Workplace Drama Stories

1. Store's Fitting Room Adventures

Our fitting room used to be a self-service room in the back of the store with a red curtain in front of it. An employee noticed 4 feet in the room and opened it to find two people going at it and had to clean up the remnants.

A second incident came when a smell wafted from the same room.

It was later discovered that someone had actually taken a dump in the room when they went in to "try on clothes".

We ended up fitting the room with a galvanized piece of chain and a master lock to keep the curtain open. Luckily, shortly thereafter, we got a full store overhaul that put in ACTUAL fitting rooms.

2. Hey Daddy

We had to guard the dressing room like a fortress. I had to prevent a girl who I thought was her boyfriend from going in there.

I also told her she couldn’t take the armful of thongs they’d picked out into the dressing room, she said “Daddy, will you hold my panties?” and handed them over. And then tells me “He’s my stepdad but I call him daddy!”

So then her 40-something methed-out mom wanders over to confirm that yes, this teenage juggalo is her husband, that he is a few years older than her daughter, that they go to the same high school, and that she finds their whole dynamic adorable.

Every time the girl called him “daddy” her mom would cackle and tell me “She just loves her daddy, they have classes together at school and she loves telling everyone she goes to school with her daddy!

They do everything together! She loves doing stuff with her daddy!”

It almost made me go back to church.

3. Silent Shopping Saga

I had a woman come in with her sleeping infant and scream at me to turn off the music while she strolled around the store.

I mean if your baby is sleeping and you want them to continue, maybe don't come to browse the store where you can hear music blasting from the other side of the mall, idk what to tell ya haha.

4. Curious Case of the Swallowed Pin

Former employee. I worked a whole 3 months in Summer, so all the kids were out and about.

I was stocking Disney merchandise and I couldn't help but notice a kid underneath one of our clearance racks. I heard some strange noise coming from there too so I crouched under and looked at the kid.

He had a button, needle and all, in his mouth. I asked him where his parents were and before I knew it he swallowed the pin and ran out of the store. I couldn't leave and go search for the child so I let security know about the button kid.

Never knew what happened after that. I can't seem to forget Button Kid though.

5. Whispers in the Halls

A teacher at our school was constantly being reported by her assistant for grossly and absurdly exaggerated offenses because the assistant didn't like the teacher she'd been assigned to this year.

The teacher is new to our school. The assistant is related to a high-up administrator and has already been moved several times.

The administration kept writing her up (the teacher), despite her protests that the complaints were absurd, and kept requesting this assistant be switched with another.

The teacher finally had enough and quit. Admin spreads around the rumor that the teacher had to leave her job for "medical reasons"

6. Corporate Affairs

The last place I worked, the VP of HR started sleeping with the (married) Manager of HR.

She got a divorce, and a few months later ended up leaving the company when VP of HR started banging some other employee.

This was a big company, btw, (like 10,000 plus employees).

7. Doctor's Office Affair

I work for a very prominent doctor in my city, who has a solo practice. His wife is the practice manager. They hired a cute blonde RN in her early 30s (married) to work part-time. I work next to her and she tells me everything.

The doctor proceeds to hit on her in person, via intraoffice instant messaging, and via text.

The latter two methods caused the wife to take notice. Instead of apologizing for the extreme discomfort this caused the nurse, the wife progressively and passive-aggressively pushes her out of the practice by gradually reducing her hours, making her keep track of everything she does minute by minute, and generally making her work environment shitty.

She's gone now. It worked.

8. The Mystery of the Phantom Pooper

We have been noticing small mysterious changes over the last month in our office.

A square of brand-new carpet was torn up and replaced in a hallway. The runner in front of the cafeteria disappeared and a few weeks later we got a brand new one.

Parts of the hallways have been strangely roped off. We also just had security cameras installed in all of the walkways.

The situation was finally brought up and discussed in a private meeting.

An employee has been pooping randomly throughout the building during business hours. These have been rather large piles of poop that people have narrowly missed stepping in.

This is a very professional workplace which makes this entire situation all the more perplexing. This person is still on the loose and it could be anyone.

9. Ceiling Squatter

At a state agency that I work with had an issue with stuff disappearing and couldn’t figure out how. Every hallway was video-monitored and it got progressively worse. More and more expensive things started to vanish. It went on for a couple of years and would flare up from time to time.

After about 10 years of this shit, they realized a senior staff member never left at night.

She’d been living in the ceiling for about a decade, would steal stuff for fun at night, and would access the offices and rooms through the ceilings.

She lived in the ceiling and would get into her “apartment” through the bathrooms each night. Now every door has a key code entry that’s individualized to each staff member.

10. Barroom Romances

My ex-coworkers and my bar-mates have all been sleeping with each other, and the drama has started to build.

What used to be a carefree fun zone has turned into people avoiding each other, getting into stupid pissing matches, etc.

I don't want anything to do with any of that shit. At some point, it's going to blow up, and rather be as far away from it as possible when that happens.

11. Sadas

A woman at my work is lying about having cancer. She comes up with new sicknesses and calls out all the time. She told us she was pregnant with twins and sent us an ultrasound picture. We searched "pregnant twins ultrasound" on Google and it was on the first page.

It goes so much deeper than this too. She would send pictures of herself "dead on the hospital table" from the "nurse" (using her phone) to my direct manager.

We don't know what to do. Our bosses are telling us to fire her, but we can't. Every time she calls out she has a doctor's note.

EuphioMachine

12. Web of Lies

We had a new employee who used her pregnancy to get out of doing any work.

She was only a few months pregnant, and every time she was told to do even a minimal amount of work she'd hold a napkin over her mouth, put on her best puppy dog eyes, and pretend to be nauseous.

And it always happened after she was asked to do some work (and even then, it was always at half the capacity the rest of us had to do).

I knew that she was faking illness to get out of work. Everyone at the office accused me of being "a hater" for daring to suggest that she was pretending. But then she went and told me straight up, "Every time they tell me to do work I just act like I'm sick! Hahaha!"

My Manager overheard her when she said this. She was given the option of quitting or being fired.

But what would I know. I'm just "a hater."

13. Embezzlement Enigma

I just started my current job almost two months ago. Since then, we've had the head of marketing leave his position. Come to find out, he was not only in charge of much of the company's financing but also the owner's.

He has been stealing money - over $100,000 - from the owner.

Opening credit lines in his name, draining bank accounts, etc.

Not sure how long it's been going on. But I did find out that the same guy was in jail from '94-'98 for embezzling over 1mil.

Not sure why the hell they hired him here in the first place (back in 2003) knowing this... I work in IT so I've had to spend my time going through his emails and his personal computer and shutting down his access to anything and everything. Fun stuff to jump into.

14. Workplace Soap Opera

To set the scene, I will fake-name the characters at the outset. My boss is Megan, her husband is Daniel and my colleague is Melissa.

So this all started about 18 months ago. Me, Megan, Daniel, and Melissa all work in the same department, however, Daniel works in a different team because Megan can't be his boss. Anyway, we're all going for a team night out (curry, karaoke, blah blah), but Megan can't make it. So Daniel, Melissa and I all go for the curry, along with a couple of others.

Come Monday morning, Megan calls me into a meeting, crying her eyes out because she's convinced Melissa and Daniel slept together on the night out. She's absolutely hysterical so I agree to ask Melissa as we're pretty close.

I ask Melissa, who also hysterically cries, telling me that Megan is using her power as her boss to push her out of the company and begs me to believe that she didn't sleep with Dan. I trust her; I mean, we've known each other for a long time.

Dan also promises me nothing happened, however, Meg and Dan's marriage suffered as a result of all the drama.

Months go by, and Megan becomes really strange and starts following Melissa to the bathroom, trying to listen to her recorded calls and access her emails. I tell her that she can't use her position like this, and we do this weekly routine where she cries, promises me she won't do it again, and she does it again the next week.

Anyway, it gets to a point where Melissa can't cope and she resigns. Megan walks around all triumphantly, Dan seems to reconcile with his wife, and they start trying for a baby.

Last night, Melissa posted a picture of an ultrasound, clearly stating that it is her's and Daniel's baby. Turns out, they'd been sleeping together for 2 years (6 months of which was prior to their wedding), and she'd lied to me the whole time.

Megan is obviously devastated, walking around like a ghost of herself. Daniel thinks it's the funniest thing ever, now lives with Melissa, and is expecting a child on his anniversary date with Megan...which also happens to be Meg's due date with Dan's child

15. Office Affair Saga

We had this accountant I'll call Laurie. Laurie was in her 40s and just insanely gorgeous for her age - not fake and plastic surgery-looking, just natural beauty. We all tended to work late and she was no exception - not always, but maybe 2 days a week she'd stay over an hour or two.

It got to where her husband would call our department's phone (since the main line would go to a recording after regular hours) and ask whoever to go find his wife. Sometimes she was there, but if she wasn't, the husband would get weird and start badgering whoever picked up,

"She's cheating on me, I know it. Who's she sleeping with??".

So, we'd have to be careful about answering, as to avoid this guy and his questions. She had young kids and every so often after he'd call, we'd get a call from her kid(s), asking to speak to their mom.

Eventually, we brought it up to her and she was so embarrassed - swore that he was possessive and crazy and she wasn't doing anything wrong. We would always tell her it was between her family and we didn't care - but she would always just deny and say her husband was nuts.

It got to the point where my boss (who was friends with her) would argue with her husband, telling him he was possessive and that he was crazy. Eventually, we would all argue with the guy when he called and confirmed that she wasn't cheating.

I stayed out of it for a long time, but after watching Laurie cry in our office after being confronted on it, I started to stand up to the guy when he'd call too and tell him that I work with her and had never seen her act improper and that the accusations were taking a toll on our workplace.

He would usually talk to me fairly rationally and always say that the signs were all there and he was almost certain she was cheating, but I always stood up for her.

Then one day she put in her notice. We were all stunned, as she'd worked there for 20 years and definitely seemed like a lifer. It was only after she left that I found out she'd been having numerous affairs over the course of several years, with coworkers as well as other random guys.

And to make it worse, my boss (her friend) had known all along and was helping to cover for her. I felt terrible for sticking up for her and really trying to convince the husband that she was faithful.

16. Hostel Havoc

I work in a hostel in Amsterdam. It's a quick turnaround because we hire travelers who are passing through and we let them work for their beds, changing bed sheets and cleaning toilets. People usually stay for a couple of months.

There's this new guy who everyone loves but I am growing more and more suspicious of him.

Things keep going missing in the rooms that he cleans. Started off small. Earphones, sunglasses, hats.

Last week 150 pounds was stolen and two days later he asked me the exchange rate for 150 pounds to euros. He also told me that he was traveling on his brother's passport using a fake name and was kicked out of his parents' house for stealing.

I don't know who to turn to. I like the guy but we can't have a thief working in the building.

17. The Python Dude

Last month we hired a new guy. Kind of a sleaze but we ignored it cause he knows Python better than all of us and we need a Python dude for... some... reason.

Anyway, we have a high school student who runs our phones because it's a low-effort job that doesn't require poking around with the expensive stuff. It's mostly low-key because the only phone calls we get are from old people who don't know how to computer and the occasional business who hasn't updated their tech since Windows XP and doesn't understand why their machines are so slow.

Anyway, without getting into specifics, the dude started hitting on the phone girl about a week ago. She's 16 and he's 35. Gave her his phone number and asked if she wanted to hang out at his place, alone. But he "totally didn't mean anything like that" (he said this before anyone even suggested it, although we were all thinking it).

Last week he "accidentally" grabbed her ass. I've never seen my boss get mad, but he laid the dude out with a solid hook to the face.

Now there are cops, the girl is traumatized and will probably quit (not that I blame her), the dude tested positive for drugs(!!) and my boss tested positive for weed (not surprising he's the biggest stoner I've met since college).

Since my boss also owns the business someone is either getting a massive promotion (which none of us are even remotely qualified for) or I'm gonna be out of a job soon, depending on how court goes I guess.

We haven't seen him since. idk if he's in jail or what tbh. We're basically just going through the motions till we find something out.

18. Liberation from Broken Promises

I worked at a law firm as a trust accounting paralegal. I was promised a "significant" bump in salary and a promotion before tax season began.

The promotion and salary bump never happened. The managing attorneys apparently did this to two of the other paralegals as well.

So, the three of us all started looking for new work and we all left within two weeks of each other.

It was amazing!!!! I left in the middle of tax season which really messed with my boss's vacation. Lol. The second girl left without any drama. But by the third, the HR lady started laughing thinking it was actually a joke. haha, glorious.

19. Corporate Overhaul

Most every non-management employee working in the office will be terminated within the next 6 months.

The 7-8 people will all be replaced with 2-3 new people who have a basic grasp of what it's like to be accountable. We will also be terminating our contract with our security company and our landscaping company.

Our current security company doesn't do foot patrols unless required, and our landscaping company lets everything get overgrown and spends about 5 hours blowing leaves into the wind creating huge clouds of dust and debris.

20. Petty Office Fun

I have a coworker who is a full-blown narcissist.

Like most narcissists, she also comes with a big ol’ helping of victim complex. She will even go as far as to invent trivial situations in which she was wronged so she can play the victim and collect sympathy.

A few weeks ago, she angrily announced to the entire office that EVERYONE must be using her creamer in the fridge since it was being used up so quickly.

It was clear that she was the only one using it since all the coffee drinkers had their own creamer.

So ever since then, I’ve been pouring small amounts of her creamer down the drain every few days, just to mess with her.

It’s so ridiculously petty and childish, but it brings me immense joy.

21. New Hire, New Drama

Somehow, I have managed to piss off one of the directors here simply for doing my job.

I hired a lady to fill a position that's been vacant for almost 2 months (it's been hard to fill). I hadn't even filled the role for 24 hours when an employee asked me what was happening with that position.

I told her "Oh, we literally just filled it like yesterday, she's going to start next Monday for a few hours while she works out her notice at her old job."

I literately finished calling the lady Monday night (like 4-430pm, end of the day) then this employee asked me first thing in the morning. I've barely had time to tell anyone, just my boss and her boss.

Well, the dumb employee went and told her director and her director proceeded to ridicule me (while not being there) saying: "What a shit show, they don't even communicate what the hell is going on" etc...

Like...Jesus man...makes me feel great to work here,

22. Nosing Around

I know this girl - I consider her a work friend. I do not attribute malice to her own stupidity.

She just doesn't know her place, you know? She meddles in things she shouldn't meddle in and it's come up to bite her, several times.

Not to mention, her director is a bit of a hothead.

Nothing will come of it, at worst, I'll get a "well, you shoulda done this" - but I doubt it'll even come to that.

23. Copycat Betrayal

My mom used to tell me about a woman she knew once who constantly told her colleague (the woman's not my mom's) that she wanted her life. House, husband, child, all of it.

She wanted her life and only months later she took it. Had an affair with the husband, broke up the marriage, moved into the house, helped the husband gain custody of the child, and then married him.

It was messed up.

People usually tell you who they are, and it's up to us to believe them. I think your gut feeling on this one is right, she has bad intentions.

24. Moldy Walls

I work in a bakery in a grocery store that has black mold growing on the walls.

My employer refuses to do anything about It, and I have pictures dating back over a year of the mold. We even called corporate about it and they haven't done anything either.

25. Office Awkwardness

One of the managers in my office who is gay sent Facebook messages to one of the people under him, a straight gent, asking him if he wanted to "experiment".

Upon being told no, that he was straight, the manager told him he would "have fun" and that he always wanted to play with a straight dude.

The guy reported it to his direct manager, who had basically mentored the harassing manager and was furious about it.

She said she would take things to HR but the guy being harassed felt embarrassed and awkward and said he would be fine as long as he never did it again and she talked to him.

She took her "protege" into a room and tore into him, now the male manager won't look either of them in the eye, has notably lost confidence, and the female manager is basically bodyguarding all her male employees.

Only those 3 people know. And me, because I happened to be there when the dude was super upset and needed someone to talk to. Respect for the manager is entirely gone.

The harassed guy is leaving for another company for a number of reasons but that's a huge one.

26. Romance and Promotions

At the landscape maintenance company I work at, the boss's Daughter came back after a hiatus to help work on one of the crews.

One guy totally fell in love with the boss’s daughter and asked her out at one point. She turned him down but didn't tell anyone about it.

The guy is a super good worker and was in line to get a promotion to supervisor and the current supervisor would get a bit demoted (he's not smart enough for the position).

Near the end of the season, Daughter has a change of heart and asks out Guy!

They keep it a secret from Dad (who owns the business). During this time he's still lining up to give Guy a job promotion. Daughter and Guy come out and tell her parents. Parents who actually thrilled because Guy is a great guy.

But now they aren't sure if they want to give him the promotion because it looks a bit too much like nepotism.

Plot twist, I'm the daughter.

29. Secrets of Our New Supervisor

And by golly, if that wasn't enough, apparently she was regularly messaging someone's brother on a dating platform.

The woman who sits behind me was sleeping with another girl in the offices' brother who also works here, and she apparently cheated on him, but the dude's sister hates the chick's guts but still acts friendly with her at work.

31. Mystery Behind the Hot Date

One of the two attractive girls at my 500-person construction company went on a hot date with a guy from work and has started sleeping with him but she won't tell anyone who. Three different people have told me the gossip this morning and speculation is flying.

It’s me. I’m sleeping with the chick from HR.

We ended poorly after she got mad at me for things I still disagree were worth getting mad about, especially VERY mad about.

But we patched it up and ended on good terms.

We both realized we weren’t 100% into each other and just liked the idea of a relationship. So we stayed friends, slept together a couple more times, and I left the company for unrelated reasons.

I probably wouldn’t try it again personally (I’ve already scoped out my new HR chicks and wasn’t interested), but my cousin is engaged to his former secretary and she’s just lovely, so there’s hope yet

34. The Quarterly Report Challenge

The nice young woman who has been given the responsibility for assembling the quarterly report on each department's workload is slowly learning (like everyone else who has been assigned this task) that she doesn't have the authority to make people give her the data she needs.

She is completely responsible for the task, but she doesn't have any authority. This task always turns people into raving loonies.

There have been many screaming scenes. A few years ago one woman threw a coffee cup at another woman about the same task. It's kind of a cruel psychological test for people to see if they crack.

This really nice girl is within weeks of raving bitchiness and probably doesn't realize it yet. It will be fun to watch her descent into madness.

35. Smoke Break Secrets

One day I got a ride into work and we have this rule where you can't smoke unless you're in a car so I asked a co-worker I've never talked to before to take a break with him.

That was 3 months ago and now I'm sucked into his work drama of loving a manager in another department and how he's sure they're soulmates but now she wants nothing to do with him.

36. Love Triangles Unveiled

My colleague got cheated on by her boyfriend of 3 years.

They had promise rings together and were the ideal high school couple

It’s only funny because his girlfriend prior to the one who got cheated on was portrayed as crazy after their break up because she was concerned about this guy talking to the more recent girlfriend.

37. Failed Flirting

38. Filthy Practices

I just got fired. Rumor around the campfire is that I was getting paid 25% more than I really was and it was too expensive for the company. I made sure everyone I know who still works there thinks I was making even more money, causing them to ask for huge raises to keep them there, and costing the company even more.

They fired me because there were blatant health and sanitation problems that extended beyond my department, and I called out the other managers on their filth, hoping to spur a cleaning frenzy.

Instead, they canned me and I'm going to deliver the best holiday present of them all, a visit from the health department. It's cool knowing I can cost those dirty bastards money even though I work elsewhere.

At the time, she had recently won our country's national championship for female wrestling and was training for the Olympics.

41. Office Clash

When I started my current job, I got into a bit of a tiff with this dude who flat-out refused to do his part of this big project; he felt threatened that once we documented it, he could be replaced. He was right.

That said, he was borderline belligerent and flat-out rude to me in front of his boss. HR ended up calling me in to give a verbal report.

As I was explaining the facts of the incident to the HR lady, she asked me if perhaps he was just not good at communicating as many technical engineering types are.

45. Unfair Firings

Two people I work with got fired this month, and everybody knows it's because our employers did not want to pay for disability when they got hurt. The first person had a ruptured appendix and was not allowed time for surgery or healing.

The second one was having shoulder pains and it ended up being a torn rotator cuff, he was fired as soon as he got a date scheduled for surgery.

We work in an environment where repetitive motion injury is common and we are worried about losing our jobs if we get hurt.

I'm not sure if this is even legal for them, but Idk what we are supposed to do about it.
