Election Disruption Efforts From Russia & China Not “Equivalant,” House Speaker Pelosi Warns

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) reiterated her assessment of foreign interference in the 2020 presidential election, noting in a series of interviews on Sunday that the threats from China, Iran, and Russia “are not equivalent.”

Although lawmakers attended classified briefings last week outlining the vast, multi-national effort to undermine American democracy, Pelosi further urged the intelligence community to “put more information out there.”

Vladimir Putin’s Soviet-style propaganda and methods of sowing national discord were at the top of the Speaker’s priority list – most notably, their determination to – again – rig the election in favor of President Donald Trump.

“Russia is actively 24/7 interfering in our election. They did so in 2016, and they are doing so now,” Pelosi said. But it is not the only threat, warning that the latest reports “give some equivalence” to what the two adversaries are doing. That “doesn’t really tell the story,” she said. “As long as they tell the whole story about Russia, then they can hide it any way they want, but the American people need to know.”

“The Chinese, they said, prefer Biden — we don’t know that, but that’s what they’re saying, but they’re not really getting involved in the presidential election,” she added.

Iran, however, appears less interested in who wins and more keen on creating chaos, National Counterintelligence and Security Center Director William Evanina said in a statement on Friday.

“Tehran’s motivation to conduct such activities is, in part, driven by a perception that President Trump’s reelection would result in a continuation of U.S. pressure on Iran in an effort to foment regime change,” he said, and he is confident in his findings.

“The intelligence assessments above represent the most current, accurate, and objective election threat information the IC has to offer in an unclassified setting at this time,” the statement read. “Providing objective intelligence analysis is the solemn duty of the men and women of the IC, who work day and night around the world, often at great personal risk, to safeguard our nation.”
