Dr. Zeke Emmanuel Tells Maddow That Trump’s Illness is a “National Security Threat”

Since the White House announced that Donald Trump had COVID-19, the White House has tried to downplay the severity of his illness. That became much more difficult to do when the president was helicoptered to Walter Reed Hospital in Maryland.

Many people Trump’s age, even with his weight problem and heart issues, survive COVID-19. But according to Dr. Zeke Emmanuel, who served in the Obama White House, the situation is very serious and represents and National Security Threat.

Dr. Emmanuel made the comments during an appearance on Rachel Maddow’s show. The host asked, “Correct me if anything I laid out there is wrong or I am putting wrong emphasis in terms of people understanding the severity of what we are up against here.”

The Doctor answered, “First of all, to have the most powerful man in the world, the leader of the free world, our president, with somewhere between a 5 percent and 11 percent, 12 percent risk of dying, I don’t think that’s so trivial — that’s pretty substantial risk of dying in the next few weeks. I think, is a national security threat. It is something to take every, very seriously.”

Emmanuel closed, “The odds are for him, but those are very high odds, and I’m speaking as an oncologist who took care of a lot of people with cancer.”
