Over 800,000 Americans have died of COVID-19. Considering that there has been a widely accessible vaccine for months, many of those deaths were largely avoidable.
Donald Trump has played a major role in both allowing COVID to spread and convincing people to not get vaccinated. Republicans, though, refuse to hold Trump accountable. Instead they have placed the blame on Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, now running for a Pennsylvania senate seat, took that tack this weekend. In a statement to the New York Post, Oz called for Fauci to be held accountable for “misleading Americans.”
“Dr. Anthony Fauci has lost the faith and confidence of the American people,” Oz said. “It’s time for a new face talking to the American people, one that is more trusted.”
The TV doctor continued, “I believe Anthony Fauci should be held accountable for misleading, whether willfully or unintentionally, the American public and the United States Congress.”
The irony of the statement is that Oz is considered to be unethical by many of his colleagues in the medial profession. And he has a history of making false claims.
During the early days of the pandemic, Oz famously said that it might be worth it to send children back to school if the mortality rate is only 2 to 3 percent.
