Dr. Birx Admits She Knew Trump Was Being Fed, Relaying, False Pandemic Information

Dr. Deborah Birx made public appearances throughout 2020 as an advisor to the Trump Administration on pandemic response. As the then-president continued to downplay the severity of the COVID-19 crisis, much of America became frustrated with her for appearing to enable him in doing so. Now, she says she saw false information presented to the former president, raising new questions about exactly what was going on behind the scenes — and why she didn’t reveal it sooner.

In the clip below, Dr. Birx speaks on Face the Nation, discussing her time working with the White House on COVID-19. She says that she saw Trump presenting graphs and data that were not accurate. Instead of the infamous phrase “alternate facts,” Birx calls this a “parallel data stream.” Even now, she portrays this as something that was being done to Trump, rather than directly holding him responsible for presenting the American people with false information.

She goes on to say that there were people in the White House who thought the whole thing was a hoax — but won’t go so far as to specifically address Trump himself perpetuating this.

The Trump Administration as a whole, and the 45th president in particular, will forever be on record for the decisions to downplay this pandemic in the early stages, when a concerted effort to get it under control could have saved untold lives. There are several individuals who history may just hold accountable for their roles.

It’s hard to be really certain whether experts speaking up to contradict Trump would have changed anything, since he was excellent at firing or silencing anyone who stood up to him. Dr. Birx never does explain, in her interview, why she never came forward at the time to say that false information was being presented.
