Dr. Anthony Fauci Tells CNN: My Family Bombarded with “Unseemly” Threats & Harassment
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease specialist, said Wednesday that he and his family have been receiving death threats as the coronavirus pandemic acclerates its spread across the United States.
Speaking with CNN’s Sanjay Gupta, Fauci reflected on the “unseemly things that crises bring out” which have taken an emotional toll on his family, specifically his three daughters.
“Getting death threats for me and my family and harassing my daughters to the point where I have to get security is just amazing,” Fauci said. “I never would have imagined in my wildest dreams that people who object to things that are purely public health principles are so set against it and don’t like what you and I say, namely in the word of science, that they actually threaten you. That to me is just strange… I wish we did not have to go through that.”
Gupta wished Fauci well and thanked him for his resolve in the face of a very loud and dangerous “war on science.”

Meanwhile, the death toll continues to accelerate as COVID-19 surges unchecked through much of the country.
“The numbers don’t lie,” Fauci said in that same CNN interview. “I mean when you look at the number of infections and the number of deaths, it really is quite concerning.”
At the time of Fauci’s appearance on CNN, the official fatality count stood at 157,000. At the time of this publication, less than 24 hours later, it has surpassed 160,000, by far the highest in the world.
