Donald Trump’s Easter Wishes Are Just Political Attacks

Remember when Donald Trump wished a Happy New Year to “the haters and losers?” Well, he’s at it again. While most U.S. politicians are wishing their constituents a Happy Easter, with many focusing on the religious aspects of the holiday, Trump’s focus is, as usual, on his own grievances.

Trump has, as of this writing, released three statements wishing a Happy Easter. The first was relatively normal, wishing peace and prosperity to all.

With the second, though, Trumpitude started to leak out — an attack on “radical left maniacs” who he claims are trying to “destroy the country.”

Oof. Not exactly what anyone would have thought of as presidential speech material, at least before there was ever a President Donald Trump.

Then, though, something seemed to trigger his feelings about Letitia James, the New York Attorney General who is leading one of the investigations into Trump’s allegedly illegal financial practices in his businesses. He sent out a new statement, through his Twitter proxy Liz Harrington, declaring, “Happy Easter to failed gubernatorial candidate and racist Attorney General Letitia James.”

Trump accused James of “driv[ing] business out of New York” while allowing “crime, death and destruction” to thrive in the state.

He did not specifically mention the investigation into his business practices, though he’s made it very clear that he is unhappy about being investigated, frequently claiming that the investigation is unfair and unwarranted, and that he’s being targeted for political reasons, rather than because he has (allegedly) gotten away with illegal financial practices for decades.
