President Donald Trump is suggesting that the Medal Of Freedom, our nation’s highest civilian honor, should be awarded to Rep. Devin Nunes for his efforts to push back against Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.
“If this all turns out like everyone thinks it will, Devin Nunes should get the Medal of Honor,” Trump said. The President later corrected himself, noting that he meant the Medal of Freedom.
In a laughable moment, the President then said of Nunes, “He is really, what he has gone through and his bravery.”
Continuing with his diatribe Trump added, “He should get a very important medal. Maybe we’ll call it Medal of Freedom because [that’s] we actually give them, high award for civilians.”
Nunes came under fire in February when he released a report that alleged sweeping abuses at the FBI in regards to the agency’s surveillance authority. The accusations were made after the FBI obtained a FISA Warrant against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.
The Trump administration claimed the warrant was executed based solely on information from the yet to be verified Steele dossier from former MI6 agent Christopher Steele. Page’s warrant eventually clearly showed that the Steele dossier was not the only piece of information gathering used to obtain the completely legal warrant.
Nunes was immediately criticized for releasing his memo because it purposefully omitted key details of the FBI’s investigation into Carter Page.
