Donald Trump Wants Flavored E-Cigarettes Banned

Donald Trump is a man of many vices. None of those vices, though, have anything to do with substances. Trump famously claims that he has never had a drink or a cigarette or has tried an illegal drug.

There have been a number of recent stories of users of e-cigarettes becoming sick from using the devices. There has always been a worry that the flavored e-cigarettes could appeal to younger consumers. Moving quickly, Trump today discussed the possibility of banning flavored e-cigarettes.

While speaking with reporters today, the President said, “We have a problem in our country. It’s a new problem. It’s a problem nobody really thought about too much a few years ago and it’s called vaping, especially vaping as it pertains to innocent children.”

The Secretary of Health and Human Services, Alex Azar, moved quickly to support the President’s idea. He tweeted, “I just announced with POTUS and FDA Commissioner that we will be finalizing policies that will clear flavored e-cigarettes from the market. New provisional data show that youth use continues to rise rapidly, and we will not stand idly by.”

The President also received support on the idea from his First Lady. Melania Trump tweeted, “I am deeply concerned about the growing epidemic of e-cigarette use in our children. We need to do all we can to protect the public from tobacco-related disease and death, and prevent e-cigarettes from becoming an on-ramp to nicotine addiction for a generation of youth.”

Some of the President’s biggest critics noticed felt that the White House moving quickly on this matter was ironic. 2020 Democratic hopeful Bernie Sanders simply wrote, “Now do AR-15’s.”
