All of the wheels have been set in motion for Donald Trump’s State Visit to the United Kingdom in early June. In advance of his visit, the president gave an interview to British tabloid, The Sun.
During the interview, Trump praised Boris Johnson, bashed Theresa May and had unkind words for the Duchess of Sussex. According to Trump, Megan Markle, who had criticized Trump in the past, “was nasty.”
Three years ago, while appearing on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, the Duchess said:
“Trump is divisive, think about female voters alone, right? I think it was in 2012, the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points; that is a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is, and so vocal about it…Trump has made it easy to see that you don’t really want that kind of world that he’s painting.”
Trump was made aware of those comments while sitting for his interview with The Sun. He told the paper, “I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty.”
The president has a packed schedule for his trip to the United Kingdom where he will meet with the Queen. He will not, however, be meeting with Markle who has recently given birth the Prince Archie.
Like his past visits to Europe, Trump’s visit is sure to be marred by a number of protests against him. According the the president, he is not bothered by the protests. He told the paper, “I am really loved in the UK.”
