Donald Trump Referred to Capitol Police Who Survived Insurrection as ‘P*ssies’
Behind closed doors, former President Donald Trump has been hurling petty insults and denigrating the United States Capitol Police officers who fought off his angry mob and managed to survive the deadly siege at the Capitol on January 6th, according to two sources close to Trump who spoke with The Daily Beast.
Four of those officers gave gripping testimony at the opening hearing of the Congressional January 6th Select Committee earlier this week, describing the mayhem they experienced and the shocking violence carried out by Trump’s jingoists. One of the officers, Harry Dunn, who is Black, recalled being pelted with racial slurs. Another, Daniel Hodges, characterized the attack – in no uncertain terms – as a “white nationalist insurrection” perpetrated by “terrorists.”
The Daily Beast reported on Friday that “in private discussions this summer, Trump has told some people close to him that several of these officers strike him as weak and as ‘pussies,’ according to two sources familiar with the comments and who described them independently. Trump has also maintained that these men seem ‘broke[n]’ by the events of Jan. 6, and that they do not have the supposed toughness or character of the law enforcement officers who, on the whole nationally, still widely support Trump and his policies.”
The Daily Beast said that “according to these two people, and another source with knowledge of the matter, the twice-impeached former president has also alleged that these particular police officers are letting themselves be used as pawns by anti-Trump Democrats, like Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), or simply despise Trump and are Democrats themselves.”
