Donald Trump Loses In Court Again — Must Sit For Deposition In A.G. Letitia James’ Investigation

Donald Trump probably isn’t tired of winning yet — especially since he’s not doing a lot of winning, lately. Nowhere does this hold true more clearly than in his interactions with Letitia James, the Attorney General of New York.

Earlier this month, Trump found himself in contempt of court, ordered to pay $10k per day until he complied with the order to turn over documents, and respond to inquiries about electronic devices that were alleged to contain evidence.
Now, he’s been dealt another blow — according to the Washington Post, Trump’s attempt to dodge sitting for deposition has failed again. He had appealed the court order to do so, and an appellate court in New York has officially denied his request.
It’s not just the former president, either — the ruling also orders Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump to sit for depositions. Eric Trump already testified, repeatedly invoking the Fifth Amendment.
Attorney General James announced the ruling on her social media accounts, reiterating her intent to hold Trump accountable — “No one is above the law.”
#BREAKING: A court has once again ruled in our favor and ordered Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump to appear before my office to testify under oath.
Our investigation will continue undeterred because no one is above the law.

In a press release, James further noted that the appellate court had rejected every claim by Trump and his family, which include an assertion that he was unfairly targeted.
Trump and his allies have repeatedly attacked James with this claim. A statement from his spokesperson, below, even claimed that A.G. James had “defrauded New Yorkers” by campaigning on a promise to hold Trump accountable, and failing to produce any evidence. (Courts do not, thus far, seem to agree that she has failed to produce enough evidence to justify her investigation.)
"The only one misleading the public is Letitia James. She defrauded
New Yorkers by basing her entire candidacy on a promise to get Trump at all costs without having seen a shred of evidence and in violation of every conceivable ethical rule. Three years later she is now faced…— Liz Harrington (@realLizUSA) January 19, 2022
inflammatory comments. Her allegations are baseless and will be vigorously defended." – Spokesperson for the Trump Organization

If the Trumps do not appeal the order further, it is not yet clear what the timeline may be for depositions to begin.
