Donald Trump Lies About SOTU Viewership In A Pathetic Attempt At #FakeNews
President Donald Trump on Thursday attempted to claim his audience of 45.6 million people who watched Tuesday’s State of the Union was “the highest number in history.”
In reality, if the SOTU was an Olympic sport, Trump wouldn’t have even medaled. Trump’s speech, based on his own numbers, was only the 6th most watched in U.S. history.
Remember when Trump was found to be lying about the size of his inauguration audience size? This is no different.
Trump’s numbers perfectly lined up with the ratings given out by Nielsen on Wednesday. His assertion that he was the most watched, however, was inaccurate. Barack Obama’s first address in 2010, had 48 million viewers and that wasn’t even the largest of all time.
Trump’s tweet seemed more like a promotional message for Fox News, noting that the Fox “beat every other Network, for the first time ever, with 11.7 million people tuning in.” No surprise here considering most of Trump’s followers only watch Fox News.
Thank you for all of the nice compliments and reviews on the State of the Union speech. 45.6 million people watched, the highest number in history. @FoxNews beat every other Network, for the first time ever, with 11.7 million people tuning in. Delivered from the heart!

Here’s how Donald Trump stacked up as our sixth-place finisher in State of the Union viewership:
Experts believe that even if live-streaming was added into the mix, he would still fall short of Bush, Clinton, and Obama since most people still watch the SOTU on traditional TV. Barack Obama, with his large millennial base, would likely gain even a larger lead over Trump.
In the meantime, this is likely #FakeNews gaslighting from Donald Trump has he prepares to release a GOP-Edited version of the Nunes Memo. The memo could be released later in the day.
