Donald Trump Claims CNN Is Cancelling “The Big Lie” For Legal Reasons — It’s Not True

Donald Trump’s false claims that the 2020 election was ‘stolen’ and that he’s the true winner have been termed “The Big Lie.” Over the last year-and-a-half, he’s made several efforts to redirect the term — even as he continued to spread his Big Lie freely. Now, he’s trying to claim that one news network’s language shift somehow supports his false election claims.

Vanity Fair reported this week that CNN has a new CEO, Chris Licht, who has asked producers to consider a slight language shift: instead of “the Big Lie,” he prefers that they refer to “Trump’s election lie(s).”

A reason was given: in his opinion, it’s too close to the Democratic Party’s “branding” and he’d prefer a different term, although it’s not a mandate, just a preference.

Despite that, Trump seems to have only picked up the part of the story that suits him — the fact that CNN is having discussions about moving away from the term — and ignored the rest. In a Truth Social post, he indicated a belief that the term was being abandoned for legal reasons — as he claims that “facts” now show the election truly was “rigged and stolen.” (Note he says this in the face of all the evidence the January 6th Committee has brought showing that he knew the Big Lie was a lie.)

BIG NEWS: Fake News CNN has just announced that it will no longer allow the use of the phrase,“The Big Lie,” probably because they are open to legal exposure as facts are now out, with more coming, that the 2020 Presidential Election was indeed Rigged and Stolen, and that the term Big Lie now represents the exact opposite of what the Democrats and Fake News Media was conning the public to believe. A big step by CNN. Congratulations!

Of course, the first lie here is that CNN “has announced” that it’s banning the phrase — that is clearly refuted in the initial reporting, that it’s Licht’s preference, not a mandate. However, if the network was truly afraid of being prosecuted for calling out Trump’s lies, they probably wouldn’t be replacing the phrase “the Big Lie” with “Trump’s election lies.”

So, is the network still calling a lie a lie?

Here are two tweets from this week alone:

Both of those reference “Trump’s lie[s].”

As for the “facts” that Trump claims are exposing the 2020 election as “rigged and stolen” — well, those would have to actually surface before they change any rational minds. So far, crickets.
