President Donald Trump spent the start of Thursday morning lashing out at media executives from NBC and CNN.
Trump has long maintained that any media report that isn’t positive about him and his administration is “fake news” and he didn’t hold back while taking to Twitter — this time to attack top execs.
“The hatred and extreme bias of me by @CNN has clouded their thinking and made them unable to function. But actually, as I have always said, this has been going on for a long time. Little Jeff Z has done a terrible job, his ratings suck, & AT&T should fire him to save credibility!”
That attack against CNN chief Jeff Zucker is not surprising since Trump has sparked with Zucker since the early days of Trump’s reality TV show, The Apprentice. Trump has long labeled CNN as “fake news” and has used every opportunity to Tweet scream at the company.
Trump then turned his attention to NBC News, suggesting that NBC had doctored his interview with Lester Holt on “NBC Nightly News.” In true Trump fashion, he offered no proof of his claim but promised that NBC News chairman Andrew Lack will soon be removed from his position.
This isn’t the first time Trump has said he would have individuals fired without the ability to complete that act on his own. Previously, Trump said he would fire NFL players who kneeled during the National Anthem.
In the Holt interview, Trump admitted to firing former FBI Director James Comey over his handling of allegations of collusion between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign. Trump’s alleged decision to fire Comey over the investigation is part of Robert Mueller’s investigation into Trump’s potential obstruction of justice.
“What’s going on at @CNN is happening, to different degrees, at other networks – with @NBCNews being the worst. The good news is that Andy Lack(y) is about to be fired(?) for incompetence, and much worse. When Lester Holt got caught fudging my tape on Russia, they were hurt badly!” Trump tweeted.
Trump, going on his usual tirade, also sent a third Tweet attack against media companies for their use of anonymous sources while adding a new attack, “fake books,” many of which have been written by former members of his own administration.
“I just cannot state strongly enough how totally dishonest much of the Media is. Truth doesn’t matter to them, they only have their hatred & agenda. This includes fake books, which come out about me all the time, always anonymous sources, and are pure fiction. Enemy of the People!”
With Michael Cohen and Paul Manafort pleading or being found guilty of felonies, David Pecker and Allan Weisselberg flipping on Trump for immunity, and the Special Counsel probe still underway, this is hardly the last time we’ll witness Trump losing his mind over mainstream media stories.
