Donald Trump’s 2016 Tweet About The TSA Hasn’t Aged Well

Airport terminals are descending into chaos as the government shutdown closes in on its fifth full week. LaGuardia Airport, one of the nation’s busiest, is experiencing heavy delays due to staffing shortages. According to CNN, the delays from such a busy hub can create delays all across the country.

While Donald Trump has been quick to deflect blame for the effects of the shutdown, he previously placed the blame squarely on Barack Obama. In a May 2016 tweet, he wrote, “While our wonderful president was out playing golf all day, the TSA is falling apart, just like our government! Airports a total disaster!”

In another tweet posted during the 2013 shutdown, Trump wrote, “FACT – the reason why Americans have to worry about a government shutdown is because Obama refuses to pass a budget.”

In a 2013 video uncovered by Thewrap.com, Trump claimed that the president should be fired for a government shutdown. After telling Fox & Friends Obama should be fired, Trump said, “Problems start from the top and they have to get solved from the top. And the president’s the leader. He’s got to get everyone in a room and he’s gotta lead. But he doesn’t do that.”

The issues at LaGuardia could make this the most problematic day since the shutdown began. With Republican leaders reportedly angry with Leader Mitch McConnell, a resolution may be coming soon.
