Disgraced Lawyer Lin Wood Loses SC Race, Praises Trump for Endorsing his Opponent
Lin Wood, a lawyer made famous for his outrageous right-wing stunts, lost his bid to run South Carolina’s Republican party.
Wood first became known by the general public when he defended Richard Jewell, a man falsely accused of a bombing during 1996 Atlanta Olympics. But as years went by, the lawyer dove deep into conspiracy theories and QAnon.
Following Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 election, Wood attempted to have the results overturned. Unlike Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, though, he wasn’t doing so at the behest of the Trump campaign.
When Wood recently announced that he wanted to become the next Chair of the South Carolina party, Trump did not pay back the favor. In fact, the former president endorsed Wood’s opponent. In a missive posted to his social media, the lawyer wrote:
“President Trump is a genius. He plays chess at a level we will never fully understand. I was honored by his description of me as a ‘strong and talented’ opponent. Upon further reflection, I understand his endorsement of my opponent, Drew McKissick. My faith in President Trump has never wavered. He is doing God’s will for our country. I support President Trump 100%.”
