Roger Stone was an important ally to Donald Trump during his 2016 run for president. He was later sentenced to prison for obstruction of justice and making false statements to the FBI. Luckily for Stone, Trump was still in office and delivered him a pardon. After obtaining his get out of jail free card, Stone pledged to do anything to help Trump get reelected. And he was in Washington DC on January 6th. In fact, he was at the Willard Hotel. The Washington Post reports that a Stop the Steal war room was set up at that very hotel. According to Stone, he had nothing to do with.
The self-proclaimed dirty trickster told CBS Miami, “I know nothing about it. I was not there,” he said. “I categorically reject and deny any insinuation, claim, assertion by anyone that I had advance knowledge or was in some way involved. Let’s be very clear: I was not on the Ellipse. I did not march to the Captiol. I was not at the Capitol. I never left the grounds of my hotel on that day. I was as shocked as every other American when I saw this unfolding on TV.”
Report Jim DeFede countered by asking what hotel he stayed at. Stone responded:
“I stayed at the Willard hotel. If there was a war room there, that would be unbeknownst to me, and anyone who thinks that Steve Bannon and I would be in the same room after he perjured himself on the stand at my trial should know better. So that’s what you call guilt by association, or smear. There’s literally nothing there, and anyone who claims otherwise would be grossly irresponsible and may be guilty of defamation.”
