Few governors have raised their profile more in the last three years than Ron DeSantis. The Florida Republican has used a combination of Trumpism and COVID denialism on his way to the top of the Republican party.

Turning the COVID pandemic into a culture war issue has worked out for DeSantis, and he doesn’t plan on stopping now. When asked on Friday if he was boosted, DeSantis said he couldn’t answer because the status can be weaponized.
DeSantis told reporters, “So that’s something that, you know, I think people should just make their own decisions on. I’m not going to let that be a weapon for people to be able to use.”
One of the people using vaccine status as a weapon is now DeSantis rival Donald Trump. Trump recently said during an interview with One America News, “I watched a couple of politicians be interviewed, and one of the questions was, ‘Did you get the booster?’ because they had the vaccine … They’re answering like, in other words, the answer is ‘yes,’ but they don’t want to say it, because they’re gutless.”
Many in the know hinted that Trump was speaking directly to the Florida governor. And as of now, DeSantis continues to play along. It will be interesting to see how this issue plays out over the next year.
