Joe Biden is the first president since George H.W. Bush who had a child that served in the military. This fact enables the 45th president to empathize with families whose children are overseas. And since his son Beau has passed on, it gives an added layer of understanding.
According to some hosts on Fox News, though, Beau Biden’s service doesn’t count. During a recent segment, two Fox hosts blasted Biden for discussing his son with families who lost children in the recent Kabul bombing.
Jason Chaffetz began, “And when they did have a chance to talk about him, Joe Biden was talking about its own son, who unfortunately did die, but he didn’t die in combat. And it has nothing to do with this.” Julia Banderas cut in, “It had nothing to do with this.”
The former Utah congressman continued, “And instead of talking about them and the sacrifice of their daughter and their sons, guess what? He wanted to talk about his own family. It’s just that’s what matters to me most are those 13 families.”
There was a time when Fox hosts held the sacrifices of veterans as sacrosanct. Then Donald Trump came along. Now many Conservative media pundits have no problem questioning the service of others.
