Democrats Focus on GOP Liabilities Greene and Boebert Amid Internal Party Fractures [VIDEO]

Freshman Reps Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene are accustomed to being at the center of negative attention, but the two set off a social media firestorm after openly disrespecting President Joe Biden during a particularly somber moment in his State of the Union speech where he was speaking lovingly of his late son, Beau Biden.

Boebert and Greene (fresh from her appearance at AFPAC, for which she was publicly rebuked by the House Republican leader, Rep. Kevin McCarthy) tried unsuccessfully to strike up a chant of “build the wall” and received scorching backlash from essentially everywhere, including from within Republican Party–Sen. Lindsey Graham yelled at them to “shut up,” while many others commented on their inappropriateness and “classless” behavior. A notable exception was Sen. Ted Cruz, who shared a photo of “my friend Lauren Boebert” that revealed the words “Drill Baby Drill” on the back of her dress.

But the indelible image of Boebert and Greene screaming at the President is already coming back to haunt them, with the Democrats determined to literally make them the face of a GOP reaching an internal breaking point that’s poised to separate the Trump loyalists from the party loyalists. Democratic operatives say they have every right to elevate the visibility of Greene and Boebert and tie them to other Republicans who have refrained from criticizing them.

And while they’re not the only ones bringing unwanted attention to the party–witness the ongoing investigation into Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz as just one example–they have both separately and together become the symbol for the downturn of the party. In an election season already overshadowed by the looming presence of Donald Trump and the many investigations into his actions, Boebert and Greene are two of the most often mentioned names in connection with plotting the January 6th insurrection. And they both continue to display negative attention-seeking behavior in public.

One Democratic political operation, American Bridge, is tying Greene to Herschel Walker, the former University of Georgia football star recruited by Trump to challenge Senator Raphael Warnock, Democrat of Georgia, this fall. Voters “know and don’t like the sort of extreme positions that Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert embody,” said Jessica Floyd, President of American Bridge. “That’s an opportunity for Democrats, and I think that we should seize on it.”
