Dem. Rep. Clyburn: Trump Will Declare an “Emergency” to Stay in Office
Since the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration, Democrats have been looking forward to voting him out of office. According to nearly every poll, they have a very good chance at doing that in the month of November.
Trump, however, has hinted that he might now be willing to accept any sort of election results that show him losing. During a CNN interview on Sunday, Democratic Rep. Jim Clyburn predicted the President will create some kind of emergency to prevent himself from being removed from office.
Clyburn, who serves as the House Majority Whip, made the comments while speaking with Dana Bash. “I feel very strongly that this man has taken on strong-armed tactics,” he said. He then compared the President to Benito Mussolini.
The South Carolina lawmaker continued, “I believe very strongly that [Trump] never had any idea about being one to peacefully transfer power. I don’t think he plans to leave the White House. He doesn’t plan to have fair and unfettered elections. I believe that he plans to install himself in some kind of emergency way to continue to hold onto office.”
