Late last night, President Trump took to Twitter to attack two prominent African American stars; Lebron James and Don Lemon. The attack came a day after the president bragged, via a retweet, about his 29% approval rating among black Americans.
Trump apparently didn’t enjoy watching the interview between Don Lemon and Lebron James, where James criticized the president and talked about his own foundation’s opening of a school for at-risk children. Trump responded to that interview with a tweet-attack directed at both men.
“Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!”
Just hours later, Dan Rather chimed in on his thoughts in regards to Trump’s demeaning tweet, with a tweet of his own, which read:
“This is apparently what the President of the United States feels the need to share with the world at what should be long past his bedtime? It’s a disgrace. It’s racist. And it’s the product of petty but dangerous hatreds. I repeat this is the PRESIDENT??!?”
Trump has shown, over and over again that he loves to attack his critics via Twitter, but its becoming more and more glaring that his preferred method of attacking African Americans is by insulting their intelligence. We saw this recently when he called Congresswoman Maxine Waters ‘an extraordinarily low IQ person‘. Now he is referring to CNN’s Don Lemon as the “dumbest man on television”, while also claiming that it ‘isn’t easy to’ make Lebron look smart.
Dan Rather’s scathing attack of the President is not a first from the renown journalist and reporter. He has often been an outspoken critic of Trump. It will be interesting to see how Trump’s ‘black approval rating’ fairs after his attack on two prominent African American stars.
