Dan Scavino, the former White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications, and Peter Navarro, who served as Assistant to then-President Donald Trump, are next on the agenda to face criminal contempt charges for their defiance of subpoenas to appear before the January 6th Committee.

The Committee made the announcement publicly via their social media and other channels on Thursday, sharing that the meeting Monday to vote on a report recommending that both of the named individuals be referred for criminal contempt charges.

Scavino was included in a round of subpoenas last September, ordering him, along with Mark Meadows, to appear on October 15th, and citing his participation in January 6th efforts to overturn the election, including encouraging people to show up for the protests that turned into an attack, and helping brainstorm how to keep Congress from voting to confirm Joe Biden’s electoral win.
“Reporting indicates that former White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications Daniel Scavino was with the former President on January 5th during a discussion of how to convince Members of Congress not to certify the election for Joe Biden. Prior to the January 6th March for Trump, Mr. Scavino promoted the event on Twitter, encouraging people to “be a part of history.” And records indicate that Mr. Scavino was tweeting messages from the White House on January 6, 2021.”
Navarro was subpoenaed just last month, also for roles in plotting to delay certification of the election and change the outcome.
“Peter Navarro reportedly worked with Steve Bannon and others to develop and implement a plan to delay Congress’s certification of, and ultimately change the outcome of, the November 2020 presidential election. In his book, Mr. Navarro described this plan as the “Green Bay Sweep.” In an interview, Mr. Navarro reportedly added that former President Trump was “on board with the strategy,” as were “more than 100” members of Congress.”
