Creep Stalks Teenager from Social Media to Her House, Gets More Than He Bargained for

In this era of social media, almost everyone’s attention revolves around endless scrolling and creating content to entertain themselves. Though every platform serves different purposes, it all boils down to one goal – to connect people. 

But how far can one go just to connect with someone they idolize the most? Brace yourself because you’re about to enter the scary part of social media and the internet at large.

The thing about the evolution of social media is that even our young ones have learned how to navigate these online apps. They’re possibly even more interested in building online communities than the older ones. 

During the pandemic, it became an outlet for people, both young and old, to share bits and pieces of their lives. 

Now we have a lot of kids and teens going viral online by posting pictures and videos. Some even go on to become influencers, while others just watch media uploaded by people all around the world.

Among other platforms, Tiktok has gained popularity with different audiences. It has made a lot of aspiring artists shine through its wild algorithm. 

One of them was Ava Majury, who was, at the time of this event, a 13-year-old Tiktok content creator. What started as an attempt to build more online following led to her having a tragic experience at such a young age.

In her teen years, Ava Majury found something she really enjoyed doing. She enjoyed sharing content on Tiktok. 

She had garnered a jaw-dropping one million followers on the app just by posting her stunning photos and dance videos from when she downloaded the app during the pandemic. At that time, she was excited about her newly discovered fame. If only she had known.

Ava’s parents wanted nothing more than to see their daughter be successful in her craft. Rob Majury, her father, was a 51-year-old retired policeman. While her mom, Kim Majury, is a 45-year-old ultrasound technologist. 

So even though some parents would have been against the idea of her becoming famous online at such a young age, her parents allowed her to spread her wings and be her own person. They would later question their decision.

Her quick rise as a TikTok influencer was as amazing as it was alarming. Incredibly, TikTok opened great opportunities for Ava. 

She started receiving brand deals, endorsements, and a lot of attention from famous reality TV producers. That was swift, but she is truly a rising star. So for now, all the misgivings they had were placed on the back burner.

With a million followers on TikTok, Ava had established a community. Her fans seemed fond of what she’s posting on her account. 

She even attracted viewers across different countries. She was doing good. Or so she thought.

At first, she just wanted to connect with her friends. TikTok had become her outlet to engage with them as they weren't allowed to meet face-to-face. 

The comments section was also their go-to way of interacting with each other. Of course, because she couldn’t filter out who she interacted with, she caught the interest of people who were not part of her circle of close friends.

After months of exploring TikTok, Ava even learned how to monetize her videos. Noticing a spike in her viewers, she observed that more than half of them were male admirers.

 This should immediately have raised red flags because she was a minor. However, it seemed no one noticed. Until that summer in 2021, no one foresaw how tragic this oversight would be.

Ava Majury was used to many people commenting and reacting to her posts. 

In fact, she was okay with it. Until this one guy has become persistent in getting her attention. What started as a simple interaction quickly turned into something more sinister.

A TikTok user EricJustin111 desperately wanted to get recognized by Ava.

 And his way of doing that was by stalking all her social media accounts. He would leave comments on her TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat, making Ava uncomfortable with his messages. 

She started blocking him, especially on Instagram. 

But she noticed weird accounts kept following her after and discovered that Eric was the one behind those accounts. Ava was becoming frustrated with the kind of attention she was getting.

It was discovered that her stalker was an 18-year-old, later identified by his real name Eric Rohan Justin. Ava didn’t know what he wanted from her, but because he lived all the way in Maryland and she was in Florida, she was not quite worried about the online menace yet. 

Eventually, he revealed his intent and requested selfies from Ava in exchange for money. To stop the 18-year-old guy from going after her, she accepted his request. What will happen next will be much more intense.

When Ava accepted Justin’s offer, he thought he could easily get what he wanted from the TikTok star. 

It appeared that the ultimate plan was to get explicit content from her. That became the start of a long nightmare for Ava.

Ava immediately reported this demand to her parents as this was the first time she had encountered such messages. 

The Majurys decided to block him right away, but before that, Rob directly replied to Justin, saying to stop contacting his daughter ever again.

However, things didn’t end there. Justin became even more eager to stalk Ava. 

Now, he took the stalking offline. He found her school and gave her classmates money to get information about the Tiktok star. Ava was in big trouble, and she didn’t even know it yet.

Since the Majury family has blocked him, he has used other people to access Ava’s info on the internet. 

He would get obsessed with her photos and save them so he could look at them every night like a creep.

After days of exchanging money and details about Ava through his classmates, he successfully located Ava’s home address and contact number. 

This news reached Ava, and she was immediately alarmed. Because things had gotten so far beyond her control, she raised her concerns with her parents.

Her parents invalidated Ava’s fear of being tracked by her most creepy stalker. 

They thought he couldn’t get a hold of their daughter, for he was just like any other troll on the internet. “There’s nothing to worry about, darling. Besides, he lives far from us”, they said.

Until the nightmare that Ava has been avoiding happened right in front of their home in Florida.

 “All I remember was, I heard it, I felt it in my chest, and I looked up, and there was a hole in my door from the fragments.”

On July 10, 2021, Justin went on a 16-hour trip from his hometown, Maryland, to Ava’s location in Naples, Florida. 

Suddenly, he blew up the Majury’s front door using his shotgun.

Ava’s bedroom was right behind that door.

 Luckily, she had still decided to hide in a conjoined bathroom with her sibling and ask for help. On the other hand, her mom quickly called 911 while her dad got his handgun.

Rob Majury went on to chase Justin after retrieving his gun. 

When he found him, the teen stalker was looking ready with his blue vest, earplugs, and protective goggles having a hard time reloading his shotgun. While it was jammed, Justin ran off first while Rob was guarding the front door.

Rob saw the stalker walking in their front yard with a loaded gun pointed at him. 

He instructed Justin to drop his weapon, but he just firmly held the gun directed at Rob. So Rob did what every other father in his shoes would have. He aimed.

One last time, there was a gunshot heard around the neighborhood.

 Not quite long after, the police arrived at the scene and found one of them lying on the floor. 

Justin did not survive the encounter. 

The police officers found two cellphones from Justin filled with an immense number of photos and videos of the Tiktok star, Ava. His harmful obsession showed him no boundaries, and that backfired on him. 

Though the pros of social networking sites have benefited many people, we couldn’t really avoid experiencing their cons. 

When we risk exposing ourselves to the public, controlling how others perceive us is hard. 

When asked if Ava’s parents would still allow her to continue posting on the platform, the Majurys said they would still support her in pursuing her dreams.

 “Her creations and videos became such a big part of her that to take it away would have been hard,” Rob told The New York Times.

Gladly, since the path she wanted revolves around social media, Ava has learned different apps to keep track of who follows, unfollows, and blocks her. 

One of these apps is called Followmeter, which also summarizes those suspicious accounts following her account.

To move on with the incident that the stalker brought in their family, Majury decided to pull out Ava in her high school and move out from Florida.

 The frightening experience served as a story to spread awareness of the danger of being out on social media.
