COVID-19 is now Sweeping Through Mike Pence’s Team
COVID-19 has been wreaking havoc on the White House for months now. The president, of course, contracted the illness, as did his wife and son. A number of other people in Trump’s circle had positive tests including Kayleigh McEnany, Kellyanne Conway and Stephen Miller.
Now the vice president’s team is encountering the illness. A total of 5 people who work directly with Mike Pence have tested positive. This includes his chief of staff, Marc Short, who regularly spends time with the vice president.
When Donald Trump was suffering from the effects of the illness, the White House often gave misleading or downright false information about his health. The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman reports that they were attempting to take a similar tact in this case. She writes, “Two people briefed on the matter said that the White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, had sought to keep news of the outbreak from becoming public.”
Many Qs on this: VP office says Pence is considered a “close contact” with Marc Short, who has tested positive for COVID, but “in consultation with the White House Medical Unit,” Pence will “maintain his schedule in accordance with the CDC guidelines for essential personnel.”

Marty Obst, who serves as an adviser to the vice president is the only other named staffer. Devin O’Malley, a Pence spokesperson told reporters:
“Vice President Pence and Mrs. Pence both tested negative for Covid-19 today, and remain in good health. While Vice President Pence is considered a close contact with Mr. Short, in consultation with the White House Medical Unit, the vice president will maintain his schedule in accordance with the C.D.C. guidelines for essential personnel.”
