Cornyn and Crenshaw Drop From NRA Convention, Trump Says He’s ‘Keeping Commitment’

It has always been clear that the NRA helps to dictate Republican public policy. Many in the government could not have gotten to where they are without the money provided by the controversial organization.

This week, the NRA was set to hold an event in Houston, Texas. Dan Crenshaw, Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, John Cornyn and Greg Abbott were all set to make appearances. After Tuesday’s mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, the decision to hold the event seems downright ghoulish. Crenshaw and Cornyn have now dropped out, the others are still on schedule.
Cornyn’s people told Yahoo News, “Prior to the tragedy in Uvalde we had already informed the NRA he would not be able to speak due to an unexpected change in his schedule. He has to be in D.C. for personal reasons on Friday.”
Crenshaw also took the easy way out with his communications team revealing, “Congressman Crenshaw is in Ukraine and we let the event organizer know that he wouldn’t be back in the country in time to attend the event Friday evening.”
Donald Trump, to no one’s surprise, will still be there. He wrote on Truth Social, “America needs real solutions and real leadership in this moment, not politicians and partisanship. That’s why I will keep my longtime commitment to speak in Texas at the NRA Convention and deliver an important address to America.”
