Conservatives Lose it After Justice Gorsuch Votes to Protect LGBT Workers

Republicans have had to put up with a lot during the Donald Trump presidency. One thing that Trump has been able to accomplish was placing a number of judges in lifetime appointments. This includes Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Donald Trump.

On Monday, however, Gorsuch sided with Liberal judges in a vote to protect the rights of LGBT workers. This decision shocked and dismayed a number of prominent Consersatives with some even claiming this could hurt Trump’s reelection chances.

The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles said of Gorsuch’s vote, “Neil Gorsuch has redefined the most fundamental aspect of our nature from the bench of the highest court in the land. No ruling he might make in the future could counteract that radicalism. Conservatives will count him among the worst jurists in the history of the United States.”

Conservative radio host Erick Erickson felt that the move from a Trump justice could hurt the President’s standing with Evangelicals. He tweeted, “All those evangelicals who sided with Trump in 2016 to protect them from the cultural currents, just found their excuse to stay home in 2020 thank to Trump’s Supreme Court picks.”

While many Conservatives were upset, Liberals were pleasantly surprised by the vote. Former Solicitor General Neil Katyal said:

“Here you see what the craft of judging is all about: reviewing a statute, some words enacted by Congress, and interpreting them. Not with some bias toward some policy result you want to get at, but just the text of the statute and what those words actually mean to us as living breathing creatures today. That’s what Justice Gorsuch did. I’m proud of him. I’m proud of the court for reaching this decision.”
