America seems very ready to elect our first Black woman President, so is it too far off to believed we could also have our first gay Vice President?
New polls indicate that yes, we are.
The Harris campaign has been vetting potential running mates such as Governors Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, and Andy Beshear of Kentucky.
But Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has emerged as the frontrunner in the "Veepstakes" to join current VP Kamala Harris on her historic ticket, according to several recent polls among Democratic voters.
A poll conducted by PBS News/NPR/Marist earlier this month found 21% of voters saying they'd like to see a V-Pete. Gov. Whitmer also received 21% in the same poll, but she's already taken on the role of Co-Chair for the Harris campaign and most likely won't be the choice.
Another 17 percent sided with Gov. Shapiro and 13 percent chose Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.
A University of New Hampshire poll released Thursday shared identical results among Democratic voters in Maine, with 21% choosing Buttigieg. That poll also showed 17% for Sen. Kelly, 7% for Gov. Shapiro, 6% percent for Gov. Beshear and 3% for Gov. Whitmer.
Secretary Pete has long been an excellent surrogate for the Biden administration. He's regularly dunked on Trump as well as the hosts during his appearances on Fox News, deftly handled the MSM's bullying of President Joe Biden, and owned Bill Maher on a recent episode of his show where he refused to be bullied into violating the Hatch Act.
Buttigieg and his husband, Chasten, have become role models for all American families, sharing their daily struggles as busy working parents of twins. They also can't find shoes! Their kids are picky eaters!
Pete is approachable, young, energetic, and telegenic. He has social media savvy and a great sense of humor, but he also can deliver facts in a way that makes people pay attention. He's been on TV a lot lately and will be a part of the White Men For Kamala Zoom call, so that's another indicator.
There's a known entity with Secretary Pete, and I think this country is ready for him.
The Harris campaign has said the VP will announce her choice before the DNC in Chicago, possibly on or around August 7th.
