[COMMENTARY/WATCH] Andy Ngo Finally Confirms He Was Chased Into Portland Hotel Lobby

As we reported last week, protesters in Portland, Oregon, who had gathered to commemorate the anniversary of George Floyd’s death on May 25th chased a black-clad individual they believed to be right-wing author Andy Ngo into the lobby of the upscale hotel The Nines. At the time we published the story, Ngo had neither confirmed nor denied that he was indeed the person glimpsed in photos through the hotel lobby’s doors.

This is the second time in three years that protesters have attacked Ngo, whom they consider a threat to their safety because he regularly posts their mug shots and personal information to social media following their arrests.

Five full days after the attack, Ngo, a well-known instigator who has repeatedly clashed with protestors, appeared on “The Ingraham Angle” on Fox News (of course). Shortly afterward wrote an extensive Twitter thread and also released a statement regarding the incident, where he employs the typical right-wing tactic of self-martyrdom and uses the opportunity to spread his own special brand of propaganda.

“I was chased, attacked, and beaten by a masked mob, baying for my blood,” Ngo wrote in eyeroll-inducing prose. “Had I not been able to shelter wounded and bleeding inside a hotel while they beat the doors and windows like animals, there is no doubt in my mind I would not be here today.”

Although Ngo’s identity was unconfirmed during the incident because he was covered in “black bloc” clothing, approximately 10 people split off from the larger protest to follow Ngo and question him about his identity. They chased Ngo for blocks before tackling him and punching him several times after his head hit the brick sidewalk of Southwest Morrison Street.

After Ngo broke free from the people hitting him, he fled to the Nines Hotel near Pioneer Courthouse Square, where his pursuers tried to pull open the front doors and called for him to meet them outside. Ngo posted an image of his face covered with bruises, cuts, and a bloodied eye. He says he went to the hospital shortly after the attack. Ngo closed his statement with an appeal to Portland’s police and other “journalists” for support.

While Ngo has his supporters, most of Twitter can’t stand him and have no problem telling him just how much.

But then there’s also this hot mess from Ingraham. If you can stomach, you’re a heartier soul than most.
