[COMMENTARY] Trump Told Nephew to Let His Disabled Son "Just Die"

This is the actual moment Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign should have ended.

That signaled a turning point in American politics, when Republicans showed everyone who they truly were by dismissing the incident as a "misunderstanding," claiming Trump wasn't mocking a disabled reporter.

If they could accept a thrice-married philanderer who had a history of racism and sexual abuse, what was a little ableism thrown in? Tax cuts, amirite?

What's next, Democratic voters wondered, boasting about his ability to grab a woman's most intimate body parts without consent?

No one was surprised to learn from Donald's niece, Dr. Mary Trump, that her uncle had a long history of mocking the disabled, because he had done it to his own grand-nephew.

Fred Trump III, the son of Donald's brother, Fred Trump Jr, tells that story and more in his forthcoming book, ALL IN THE FAMILY: The Trumps and How We Got This Way, which will be released next week.

The Guardian obtained an early copy and shared some of the more horrifying details about Trump's behavior that would damn any other political candidate's campaign.

Trump III tells the heartbreaking story of his son, William, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy after he began experiencing seizures soon after his birth.

Fred Trump III says he called Donald Trump after seeing him at Briarcliff, a family golf club in Westchester, New York. He says he described his son’s physical needs to Donald, how expensive the increasing costs for his care had become, and how he had gotten “some blowback” from Trump’s siblings when asking for similar assistance.

It was 2020, and Donald, who was still in the White House,  was at the time “the only one” of the older Trumps still “contributing consistently” to William’s care.

“Donald took a second as if he was thinking about the whole situation,” Fred Trump III writes.

“‘I don’t know,’” he finally said, letting out a sigh. ‘He doesn’t recognize you. Maybe you should just let him die and move down to Florida.’”

The book also includes a passage where Donald is quoted using the N-word, the timing of which couldn't be more perfect considering Trump now faces Kamala Harris, the first Black VP, as his opponent in the 2024 presidential race.
