[COMMENTARY] The Good Liars Troll Trumpers Into Banning the Bible By Telling Them What’s In It

Republicans nationwide have been trying to ban certain books from public schools due to subject matters that make them personally uncomfortable, mainly those centering on race and/or LBGTQ themes that are seen as “pornographic and overly sexual”, while books containing cishet sexual relationships between white characters have been taught for decades without raising any eyebrows.

Pastor Greg Locke just held a book burning near Nashville, TN, where he encouraged his flock to bring copies of “Twilight” and “Harry Potter” along with other “demonic” books. The hypocrisy is off the charts from the “f— your feelings” crowd. The people who expect everyone to respect their faith and beliefs while never extending that same courtesy to the other side sure get all uppity, don’t they?

If you’re picking fights with Big Bird and crying about Atticus Finch while also discrediting all of Black and LGBTQ literature, maybe you’re the problem. The right has no problem whining about “cancel culture” with one side of their mouths while literally attempting to cancel our culture with the other side. So what if someone confronted a MAGAt who’s not much for book learnin’ to ask them about getting another book banned that has a whole bunch of not-great stuff in it? And what if it turned out the book they were talking about was that controversial work of fiction known as “The Bible”? The Good Liars asked themselves this very question and came up with completely golden results. Jason Selvig and Davram Stiefler shared a TikTok video that has since been viewed 5.8 million times in which Selvig tells a blonde woman and a man wearing a red MAGA cap, “There’s a book we’ve seen that’s in libraries in lots of schools that features a story of two daughters having sex with their dad.” Now watch the comedy hijinks ensue:

Isn’t that GLORIOUS? It’s seriously high art. The Good Liars are really excellent at using the right’s more ridiculous talking points against them, as witnessed in the video below.

Also, here’s a hot tip: if you don’t like what’s in a book like “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” or “To Kill A Mockingbird” or “The Color Purple,” then don’t read them. It’s not hard to just keep watching your NASCAR and whatnot, but you don’t get to decide what other people can and can’t read for themselves. That’s fascism, friends! And we don’t like fascism in America, or at least we’re not supposed to. We also are supposed to hate racism, but I guess we can only do so much in one lifetime, right?
