[COMMENTARY] RNC Busted For Deleting Webpage Touting Trump’s ‘Historic Peace Agreement’ With Afghanistan

The Republicans excel at so many terrible things, it’s hard to choose which is the absolute worst thing because they’re capable of creating a new low for humanity several times a day. Right now the GOP is involved in a major effort to rewrite all of the parts of American history they don’t like, up to and including the January 6th insurrection and the twenty years the United States has occupied Afghanistan. As recently as a month ago at one of his ego rallies, Donald Trump was touting his own plan for pulling American troops out of the region for good, but as soon as the “plan” he left behind started going sideways, Republicans still held in sway were quick to start blaming President Joe Biden for something that began two decades ago despite being in office for only seven months.

No one can say the U.S. is blameless, and both parties had been duped into supported a war allegedly over the September 11th attacks but ultimately was about oil. But the Republican Revisionists always conveniently forget their part in all of the Bad Parts of the Story of America. A simple look at the economic history of the country tells the story: Republicans make messes, Democrats try to clean up the messes. But while the Democrats are doing the government version of getting down on their knees to scrub the floors, the Republicans are walking through the areas they already cleaned wearing muddy boots.

Just because you don’t like the truth doesn’t mean you’re allowed to ignore it. When has the Ostrich Method of dealing with problems ever solved anything? If you pretend something didn’t happen, it doesn’t make it disappear from history. But that still didn’t stop the Republican National Committee’s web designer from doing a little creative editing when it came to Afghanistan. The RNC took it upon themselves to remove any reminder of what the Former Guy called “a historic peace agreement”.

Twitter enjoyed themselves at the GOP’s expense yet again.
