[COMMENTARY] Rejoice: Lauren Boebert’s Got a Tough GOP Primary Challenger

It’s not often you’ll find me saying something nice about a Republican, but I’m still capable of acknowledging when they step out of the Red ranks to act in a bipartisan way or do some other good thing for the greater good, which is actually what elected government officials are supposed to do. If you’re going to tout country over party, you sometimes should act that way. I can be thankful for GOP members of Congress like Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney working on the January 6th House Select Committee while still not being a fan of most of their policies.

I say this because I’m about to lay a whole lot of praise on a Republican man who most definitely doesn’t have too many things for me to fangirl over, but he’s doing one amazing thing that I have to shine a light on: he’s challenging Rep. Lauren Boebert (Q-Colorado via Moscow, which is why she charged all those miles for her campaign).

Meet Rep. Don Coram, a longtime lawmaker in Colorado who’s had it with Boebert’s “juvenile antics on the national stage” and has thrown his cowboy hat into the race to challenge her re-election. And sure, I’d prefer a Democrat in that seat, and we still might get one thanks to the redistricting out there, but if Coram knocks Squeaky out of the running in the primary, I’ll be too busy doing the Superior Dance to fret about that right away.

Here’s why we like Don: He says things like, “I look forward to setting the record straight on the lies Lauren Boebert and her supporters have peddled.” He was slamming Squeaky, who’s been scared of him since January, when she started calling him “corrupt” and accusing him of voting to legalize hemp in order to “enrich” himself. This is from the woman who borrowed $130,000 from Ted Cruz’s campaign and claimed enough campaign mileage to circumnavigate the global multiple times. But Don’s got this one, kids. “If I wanted to make a million dollars,” Coram responded at the time, “maybe I should try ‘consulting’ for an oil and gas firm for $500,000 a year and lie about it on public filings. That seemed to have worked out for others in this race.”

He was referring to how Boebert’s husband Jayson has gotten paid nearly $1 million over the last two years from an oil and gas company for “consulting work”. You know, the guy who showed off his genitals to teenagers in a bowling alley. That guy.

So while I’ll clearly root for the Democratic challenger, Don is always going to have my respect for just showing up to take Squeaky out.
