It’s an odd time to be aligning yourself with the Republican Party if you’re anyone, but extra especially if you’re still claiming to be a registered Democrat because it was easier to get elected in your state as a Democrat (no, we’re not talking about Joe Manchin, but it’s understandable that you’d think I was going there) despite the fact that you just signed on to headline the Ronald Reagan Dinner at CPAC this year.
A quick ask of the Google reveals that a few Democrats have indeed appeared at CPAC before, but in the pre-MAGA era when “legitimate political discourse” didn’t involve bear spray and attempting to impale Capitol Police officers with flagpoles. Bill Clinton’s former adviser Paul Begala spoke at CPAC in 2013, where he participated in a debate with Fox News host Tucker Carlson and expressed his hopes that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would run for president and said she would be a “great” choice (no, I’m not writing this with my teeth clenched superhard or anything). In 2015, former Representative Dennis Kucinich of Ohio defended his effort to impeach former President George W. Bush. He acknowledged that CPAC was “an event for conservatives”, but said he felt “comfortable” at the convention, saying that he worked with people “in both political parties” during his tenure in Congress. After Trump took office, CPAC became the MAGAfest it is now, but CNN commentator Van Jones appeared at CPAC 2019 despite being a vocal critic of Trump and Republicans. Jones actually praised conservatives for their work on criminal justice reform: “Unfortunately,” Republicans were the “leader on this issue,” Jones said and joked that Republicans were “stealing my issue.” And now you know why a lot of people have a problem with Van Jones.
But ANYWAY, why Tulsi Gabbard hasn’t fully claimed her MAGA stance is beyond all of us at this point. Hillary Clinton wasn’t wrong about her, and Tulsi is just proving Hillary’s points for her by showing up on Fox News on the regular. Headlining anything at CPAC + being publically critical of the Democratic President + praising Vladimir Putin on State TV = YOU ARE NOT A DEMOCRAT, TULSI.
Tulsi: Putin has made clear all along that their security is what’s at stake here
Hannity: I don’t want to interrupt you but Putin has also said Ukraine is not a country and he has been saying this many many years so these territorial ambitions have existed a long time pic.twitter.com/SBGtTsUbJM

Really, the only thing Tulsi seems to be good for at this point is bringing out her many Twitter critics who have no problem explaining why she’s terrible.
Tulsi Gabbard is an insider threat to the United States Army. At some point the weak excuse that she isn’t doing it in uniform has to be thrown out and leadership shown. She is a foreign agent. https://t.co/82wPYUejIc

CPAC is a cult now. This may explain why Tulsi Gabbard is going to speak at #CPAC.
They have abandoned all the core principles of conservatism, in their ruthless quest for power.

‘Tulsi Gabbard isn’t right-wing!’ they roared at me for much of 2019 and 2020.

You’re never going to be president, Tulsi
