[COMMENTARY]: Never Forget Nor Forgive Donald Trump or His Nucleus Of Nincompoops

With just one week to go until Joe Biden is inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States, the House of Representatives impeached President Donald Trump for inciting an insurrection against the United States Capitol on January 6th.

The vote late Wednesday afternoon was a bipartisan 232-197. Befittingly, 232 is the same number of Electoral College votes that Trump earned in the 2020 election – which he lost to Biden in a glacially protracted landside.

Following the House’s vote to impeach Trump for a second time – yet another embarrassing, pathetic, and wretched first – CNN’s Jim Acosta, whom Trump once banned from the White House for asking tough questions, elucidated how millions of Americans – and indeed a vast majority of the civilized world – feel amid this unprecedented nexus in history:

One thing I would want to point you to, and that is some of the reactions I’m getting from Trump advisers … from somebody who advises the president, speaks with him regularly, just spoke with him the other day. This is what the adviser said: ‘In the end, it all came crashing down,’ in the words of this adviser, ‘because Donald Trump could never tell the truth. He will be the cautionary tale that parents tell their kids. Don’t end up like Trump because of your lies.’ I just think that’s an extraordinary statement to come from an adviser to the president of the United States, who is now the first president in U.S. history to be impeached twice. Even his own people, Jake, Dan, and Abby, even his own people know he’s a scoundrel; know he’s a liar; know he’s somebody that incites violence.

This is something I see as the culmination of so much we’ve had to experience over the last four years at those rallies,” said Acosta. Lie after lie after lie, fistfights breaking out in rallies, inciting violence, and so on. We’ve talked about this time and again. But now it seems people inside the president’s own team and advisers get it. This one adviser describing the president as someone who built everything on lies, and this is coming crashing down on Donald Trump because of his lies, and perhaps the biggest lie he told over the last four years was that he did not lose the 2020 election. It was a lie that became so cancerous we saw the events unfold a week ago.

Frankly, Acosta was far too kind toward Benedict Donald, whose single-term reign of terror climaxed with a devastating pandemic and a failed coup against the democratically-elected federal government.

For four agonizing years – illuminated by perpetual gaslighting, stoking racial tensions, assaults on liberal democracy, and jovial appeasement of foreign adversaries – Trump has embodied the role of an abusive stepparent while masquerading as a commander in chief.

He has systematically whittled away at the brittle seams caulking the chasmic sociopolitical rifts that betokened his inflammatory deportment – and in the twilight hours of his dark blotch on our republic, Trump’s terminal stunt was to deploy hoards of spuming Nazi wannabes into a pointless commission of mass sedition.

The Senate will be under Democratic control when Trump’s impeachment trial commences, and numerous GOP lawmakers have hinted that they would vote to convict him of inciting insurrection.

Mind you that Trump is no Bill Clinton – or Richard Nixon – or Andrew Johnson, the three other presidents to have been impeached. But unlike his predecessors, Trump will not face removal from office.

If he is convicted post-presidency, Trump will be constitutionally barred from ever holding elected office in the United States again.

As a new era circumspectly emerges on January 20th, We the People cannot settle for “moving on for the sake of healing,” as many politicos have suggested.

The only means by which the American people can stitch their wounds and mend their collective hearts after enduring the onslaught of abuse, betrayal, and maniacal manipulation by Trump is to hold him and his collaborators accountable – citizens and elected officials alike – to the fullest extents of the law, because those who ignore the past are predestined to echo it.

Americans must never forget nor forgive Donald Trump or his nucleus of nincompoops for their deprivations of decency and the fatal wreckage they have wrought upon the ever-evolving American experiment.
