[COMMENTARY] Kamala Harris Donors Shatter Single-Day Fundraising Records

Democrats always recover quickly, but the way the party has shown up for Vice President Kamala Harris barely 24 hours after President Joe Biden shocked the nation with his announcement to not seek re-election has been nothing short of historic.

Donors shattered fundraising records by the hour. First, it was $2 million after 60 minutes. Then it was $27.5 million five hours after the President's letter was released to the world.

But it didn't stop there.

As endorsements rolled in for VP Harris, so did the money. ActBlue kept updating as the tally hit milestone after milestone.

$30 million within seven hours.

$50 million within nine hours.

By the end of the day, Kamala Harris had raised over $50 million dollars.

That's my kind of woke math, y'all.

Even after midnight, the total kept going up. The latest update I saw on ActBlue's Twitter last night was over $70 million.

And that's on top of what the former Biden-Harris campaign had in its coffers, all of which now goes to the Harris campaign and her still-to-be-announced running mate.

Along with a whole bunch of former Nikki Haley voters who ignored her endorsement for the orange guy who's now terrified to debate a Black woman.

Frontrunners for that spot are all white men, which is a sad commentary on how far America both has and hasn't come. But if we need to take baby steps to get there, I'm fine with starting with the first Woman of Color leading us there.

My personal favorite choice is Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, although he's young enough that he could put off a White House bid for a bit while moving up in the Cabinet. Secretary of State Pete has a nice ring to it, as suggested by my pal  Hal Sparks on his Monday morning podcast
