[COMMENTARY] Haley Delegates Back Harris as Dems Raise $27.5 In Five Hours

Small donors have already raised a whopping $27.5 to back presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Kamala Harris in the wake of President Joe Biden's shocking announcement Sunday that he would be stepping aside rather than seek re-election with her by his side.

ActBlue reported a record number of donations began pouring in almost immediately after the President's announcement took the world by surprise.

Insiders say the exit has been planned for "weeks," yet it still has thrown both parties for a loop, with some Republicans threatening to sue if Biden is indeed removed from the ballot.

Yes, the same Republicans who were demanding he drop out. No, it doesn't make sense to me either, except that maybe they're worried about their Presidential nominee getting crushed in a debate with the former prosecutor, Attorney General, Senator, and current VP.

President Biden has strongly endorsed VP Harris, as have an ever-growing list of Congressional Democrats. The race to be Kamala's running mate began almost immediately, with Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg all emerging as front-runner favorites.

Calls for Donald Trump to step aside as the GOP's nominee were just as loud on Twitter on Sunday, with many Democrats co-opting the ageist MAGA narrative used on Joe Biden.

"Donald Trump is 78 years old," tweeted @AngryStaffer. "He would be the oldest person ever elected President in history. He should drop out of the race and pass the torch to someone younger."

Aside from her donations and endorsements, Vice President Harris has also already picked up some additional support from an unlikely source--a PAC comprised of Nikki Haley's voters.

Previously known as "Haley Voters for Biden," the PAC has already changed its name to reflect its support for VP Harris.
