[COMMENTARY] Controversial Clark County School Board Trustee Invites Potential Shooters to ‘Walk Into Our Schools’ to Test Security

Clark County, Nevada sure has a lot of colorful characters contributing to its local political scene, but no one’s made quite a mark like Clark County School Board Trustee Katie Williams, who’s been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump while also pushing QAnon conspiracy theories and pro-gun propaganda from her Twitter account. Now Williams, who has posted racially inflammatory tweets, and has ties to the Proud Boys, has once again ignited controversy by using social media to justify gun violence.
Williams posted a video on her Instagram where she defended her profile photo, which depicts her holding an AR-15. It’s the same weapon used in recent mass shootings in Buffalo and Milwaukee, but she was specifically referencing the horrific mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, where 19 children and two teachers were slaughtered by a teenage gunman who couldn’t be stopped by police outside the school. After explaining that the picture was taken at a gun range, Williams justifies using weapons for school security by challenging people to “just walk into our schools” because “anybody can.” She advocates for cameras in classrooms and single-point entries, but at no time does Williams call for stricter gun regulations.
Williams has been a thorn in the side of Clark County politics for a while now, with plenty of complaints from other board members and fellow trustees. It’ll be interesting to see how they respond to her latest antics, which could potentially endanger every Clark County school student along with the staff.
