[COMMENTARY] CNN Claps Back at Trump For Slamming Acosta
It’s no secret that Donald Trump isn’t a fan of CNN nor its many correspondents, but he seems to have a special hatred for the network’s Jim Acosta. Their contentious interactions often lead to tweetstorms from Trump, who seems to have a problem with journalists doing their jobs of asking him questions about the things he does. Acosta famously sued Trump in November 2018 for removing his White House press credentials.
CNN tweeted today that Trump still has “no grasp” of how dire the pandemic truly is, quoting an anonymous staffer who said, “He doesn’t get it.”
As Trump continues to tout the controversial drug as a cure, Acosta tweeted a similarly worded missive on Twitter.
A source familiar with Trump’s Tuesday Oval Office meeting with his coronavirus task force said the president is still not demonstrating that he has a firm grasp of the severity of the pandemic in the US.
“He still doesn’t get it,” the source said. “He does not get it.”

Trump responded almost immediately on Twitter, saying falsely that CNN “has no sources on the Coronavirus Task Force. Their ‘sources’ are made up, pure fiction! Jim Acosta is a Fake reporter!” CNN fired back in support of Acosta:
False. @Acosta is a Real reporter with Real sources who talks to members of your Task Force much more often than you do.

In the aftermath of the already-infamous Jonathan Swan interview on Axios On HBO, others are now following suit by not letting Trump get away with any pat answers, especially when it comes to spreading misinformation about the Coronavirus and hydroxychloroquine. Trump has received continuous criticism regarding his mishandling of the pandemic, yet continues to push his dangerous agenda of reopening schools. On “Fox and Friends” Wednesday morning, Trump said, “My view is the schools should open. This thing’s going away. It will go away like things go away.”
Trump also continues to attack anyone who corrects his false claims that the pandemic is under control, including his own health experts. When task force coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx underscored that the coronavirus is now widespread in rural and urban areas around the country, Trump claimed that she “took the bait” from the “liberal media” and “hit us.” Trump surrogate Peter Navarro is now his go-to mouthpiece when it comes to that topic.
