[COMMENTARY] Christian Nationalism On the Rise Along With Trumpism

[Disclaimer: your author was raised Jewish but is now an incredibly staunch atheist]

The GOP, aka the MAGA Cult, aka Cult 45, are all comprised of the same people who call themselves “Christians” but don’t seem to have a problem with nineteen dead children in Uvalde because MUH GUNS N MUH FREEDOMZ is still the chant of the brainwashed masses looking the other way whenever there’s a mass shooting. They invoke “God” and “Jesus” while not understanding that there’s supposed to be a separation of Church and State. If you’re easily indoctrinated into a groupthink scenario, you’re already weak. And when you don’t do anything but spew your empty Bible talk to justify being a selfish dick, I’m going to call you out.

Ted Cruz is a hypocrite of the highest order, and even getting screamed at in a restaurant did nothing but elicit a smirk from the smarmiest and most useless pile of flesh to ever ooze its way into the Senate. Republicans talk a big game about their God while whining and complaining, but they never DO anything about the things they whine about. All they do is enjoy criticizing and obstructing Democrats while never actually solving the things they bitch about. But Jeebus or whatever.

There sure are a lot of self-proclaimed “Christian nationalists” within Cult 45 who enjoy living like an ostrich and pretending truth isn’t real because you don’t like it is their default setting, and now some of them could have actual government power. I can’t stress enough how bad it would be if, say, Doug Mastriano, who won Pennsylvania’s Republican gubernatorial primary this month, wins.

Look at that guy in the God tie. He is DELUSIONAL. He is in all of the cults. He thinks Trump “is still the President,” which is a phrase that burns my fingers a little to type, but I’m just quoting here. Dougie Unfresh is straight-up cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. After he clinched the nomination, he held a celebration where a Christian singer led the crowd in song, some raised their arms toward the heavens in praise.  Mastriano opened his remarks by evoking Scripture: “God uses the foolish to confound the wise.” He claimed Pennsylvanians’ freedom would be “snatched away” if his Democratic opponent wins in November, and cast the election in starkly religious terms with another biblical reference: “Let’s choose this day to serve the Lord.”

Welcome to my nightmare.

Oh, and Doug was also at the Capitol on January 6th. So, there’s that whole “running with the Proud Boys” energy while pushing the Big Lie. Please vote for Josh Shapiro, people of Pennsylvania. Josh lives on the same planet as we do and understands that Joe Biden is the legitimately elected President of the United States, along with plenty of other realistic facts.
