[COMMENTARY] Beto O’Rourke Joins Massive Protest Outside NRA Convention in Houston

They didn’t cancel, because money. But they banned weapons at the NRA Convention taking place in Houston, Texas. Maybe they should just hold it somewhere there’s only one door.
While devastated parents in Uvalde are coping with the ineptitude and cowardice of its police force, the NRA has lost a major part of its Memorial Day Weekend platform because apparently there are people in the NRA who can’t tolerate looking away when yet another young man in America who spent hours in gun chat rooms and then posted he’d shot his grandmother and was on his way to “shoot up a school.” slaughtered 19 children and two teachers.
The stories emerging from Uvalde are unspeakable and we should all read every last one of them. While the GOP flop sweats and yammers about doors and Kevlar instead of getting assault weapons out of circulation or at least making it really effing hard to get them, thousands are protesting outside the NRA Convention in Houston as I write this, and I’m screaming along with them. Ted Cruz can take his doors and prayers and do things that would put me in Twitter jail if I suggested them.
Hey #NRAConvention why don't you have only one door to get into your child murder celebration? It's the best way to stay alive! Wear your Kevlar backpacks & remember your shooter drills & you'll be FINE without your guns. I mean, it's not like you're in an elementary school 🤬 pic.twitter.com/w0iK2wnHY0

Beto O’Rourke is challenging Texas Govern-not Greg Abbott this November, and it’s hard to believe he won’t take it in a landslide after showing up at Abbott and Cruz’s farce of a news conference about the Uvalde massacre, but this IS Texas. He’s also protesting outside the NRA Convention and he’s the absolute right man to be leading Texas in the right direction when it comes to gun reform so that no eighteen-year-old who thinks vigilantism is cool and life is a video game with no consequences can legally buy an AR-15 before he can legally buy a beer.

Twitter users who couldn’t be at the protest gave plenty of props to those who could.
