Comedian Tim Allen: I Supported Donald Trump Because I Liked That He Pissed People Off
Donald Trump has long been desperate for the approval of celebrities. The former president created a reality show where celebrities would work for his organization. The need for approval went so far that Trump reportedly offered big money to 50 Cent to attend his 2017 inauguration.
Despite all of this, not too many celebrities were willing to openly support the former president. That made Tim Allen an outlier. During a recent interview with Marc Maron, the comedian said that he supported Trump because the former president “pissed people off.”
Allen told the podcaster that he leans Conservative because he doesn’t like paying taxes. He continued:
“I literally don’t preach anything. What I’ve done is just not joined into, as I call it, the ‘we culture.’ I’m not telling anybody else how to live. I don’t like that, ‘we should do this’ or, ‘we should do that.’ Once I realized that the last president pissed people off, I kind of liked that. So it was fun to just not say anything. Didn’t join in the lynching crowd.”
The comedian, though, was willing to call out the former president for his role in the January 6th insurrection. He said after the attack, “[It was] horrible, embarrassing, and shameful. Why didn’t the powers-that-be go [to the Capitol]? When I was watching that, I felt that the president should have been a stand-up guy and go there with his security and say, ‘Hey, come on. No, no, no, no.’ Maybe they don’t allow that.”
