CNN’s Rick Santorum Says He Doesn’t See Any Republicans Blocking Democracy

Donald Trump may have lost the 2020 election, but he will still wield a lot of power going forward. That is especially true in the Republican party. The president enjoys being in power and those in his party know it. So if they are going to continue their political careers, they will have to pay fealty to Trump.

This was evident last week when over 100 congresspeople were willing to sign onto a frivolous lawsuit. The suit was aimed at throwing out millions of votes in swing states. But according to Rick Santorum, those GOP Reps. were actually trying to block democracy.

A CNN panel on Anderson Cooper’s show was discussing Joe Biden officially receiving 306 electoral votes. Santorum opined, “So I think the narrative that somehow Republicans have abandoned all of their sanity and have thrown in with Donald Trump just doesn’t fit with the facts of what we are seeing happening today.”

Gloria Borger countered, “Can I just say that there are those 126 Republicans in the House at the national level who supported that Texas lawsuit, which we all know was gibberish, which was –.” Santorum interrupted, “And they lost! And they lost! ”

The former Pennsylvania congressman later closed, “Supporting a lawsuit is not the same as — you’re allowed to — there are lots of lawsuits that are filed that are frivolous or bad and people are allowed to get on them, but that doesn’t mean that you’re disrupting democracy. That is actually part of democracy.”
