CNN Tells Trump, Be Better, Don’t Exploit Children And Tweet Fake Videos

CNN called Donald Trump out overnight on Thursday for his share of a manipulated video that cast two toddlers in a cruel light. Trump had shared a few videos on Thursday mocking people who call out public displays of racism. One was a video ad, and the other was a manipulated copy of a CNN story. Though the original story was sweet, the manipulated video suggested that the network would even see racism in the innocent play of toddlers.

CNN shared the original story back in September. It was a simple feel-good story — two toddlers, barely two years old and best buds for almost literally half their little lives, run to each other excitedly and hug when they see each other. It just happened that one was black, and one white.

Trump’s altered video shows a different story — as the two babies run in the same direction, the fake headline suggests that the black baby has to run away from the other baby because of racism.

“Terrified toddler runs from racist baby,” reads the fake headline, with a CNN banner, as though to suggest that more left-leaning news networks, particularly CNN, are churning out false narratives of racism. At another point in the video, the faked chyron reads “racist baby probably a Trump supporter.”

Trump’s other video suggests this more explicitly — actually showing a narrative of a kindly (white) neighbor in a MAGA hat helping out a stuck (black) driver, and going viral as a mean racist for it, because of people sharing videos without the whole story.

CNN called Trump out for the video, suggesting that his problem with the network isn’t that their news is fake, but that it’s accurate.

We’ll continue working with facts rather than tweeting fake videos that exploit innocent children. We invite you to do the same. Be better.

As seen above, Twitter also flagged the video as manipulated, linking users who clicked through to an explanation as follows:
