Chris Christie had initially run for the Republican nomination to stop his former friend Donald Trump from nabbing the bid. And the former New Jersey governor, who started polling at one or two percent, gave it a good run.
But at this point, it has become clear that even if something happens to Trump, it won't be Christie who captures the nomination. Tonight, the candidate announced he was dropping from the race and hit both Trump and his fellow candidates on the way out.
Christie told the New Hampshire crowd, "I would rather lose by telling the truth than lie in order to win. And I feel no differently today because this is a fight for the soul of our party and the soul of our country."
The former New Jersey governor continued, "Imagine just for a moment if 9/11 had happened with Donald Trump behind the desk. The first thing he would have done was run to the bunker to protect himself. He would have put himself first, before this country.".
The candidate then ripped Nikki Haley saying she is just trying to earn the VP slot. "Let’s say I dropped out of the race right now and I supported Nikki Haley. And then three months from now, four months from now, when you’re ready to go to the convention, she comes out as his vice president. What will I look like? What will all the people who supported her at my behest look like?"
